Before You Run

You may be thinking that running away is the only option right now. You are having a tough time talking with your parents, you’re under a lot of pressure with your friends, or you’re getting bad grades at school. Maybe one of your friends is thinking of running away and you want to help them. It’s possible that you may have already run and you want to return home, or you’re considering calling 1-800-RUNAWAY and don’t know what to expect. These are all common situations and feelings. There are resources out there to help you right now.

If running seems like the only answer to your current situation, ask yourself these questions before you act:

  • What else can I do to improve my home situation before I leave?
  • What would make me stay at home?
  • How will I survive?
  • Is running away safe?
  • Who can I count on to help me?
  • Am I being realistic?
  • Have I given this enough thought?
  • What are my other options?
  • If I end up in trouble, who will I call?
  • When I return home, what will happen?
