Let's Talk: Exercise
Hey everyone! Mikaela here! The one word almost everyone can't stand is "exercise". For one thing I don't like exercising AT ALL! That's why I play sports. Now that it's football season, I'm a cheerleader! I have practice every other day and am at the football games every Sunday. I do cheerleading because I can see my friends and talk to them -- that's how it is with every sport! It's a good idea to play sports because not only you see friends, but it's good exercise too. And, the more exercise you get the better you feel! You don't have to be the fittest person ever to play sports either-- I'm not. You also don't want to starve yourself on some fancy diet program that all the "kool" people do. I think that if you try being like everyone else you won't be able to find the thing you enjoy a lot. Also don't text or stay on the computer all day. The best cure for boredom is hanging out with your best friends. So get off that couch, put away the chips and invite a friend over!

If someone is pressuring you to do anything that's not right or good for you, you have the right to resist. You have the right to say no, the right not to give a reason why, and the right to just walk away from a situation.

Resisting pressure can be hard for some people. Why?  They…

  • are afraid of being rejected by others
  • want to be liked and don’t want to lose a friend
  • don’t want to be made fun of
  • don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings
  • aren’t sure of what they really want
  • don’t know how to get out of the situation

Sometimes resisting isn’t easy, but you can do it with practice and a little know-how. Keep trying, even if you don’t get it right at first. To get started, check out Quick Tips.

Quick Tips: You can resist alcohol or anything else you may feel pressured into. These tips will make resisting a little easier. Print it, cut it out, and stash it somewhere safe where you can peek at it if you need a refresher.
