The card is free and can be used immediately; there is no need to fill out an application form.

GVHP-Rx is available at pharmacies, as well as at county and municipal offices, local libraries and doctor's offices, Catholic Charities and the Geneseo Parish Outreach center. For more information, please call 585-728-5738.

Prescription Discount Cards - Prescription discount cards can be an effective way of lowering drug costs. Prescription discount cards entitle the holder to a discount off the retail price of prescription medicine at participating drug stores. The savings will vary based on the prescription medicine and pharmacy. Discount cards are not insurance; the holder is responsible for payment at the time of purchase.

Not all cards are the same. Some carry membership fees and require completion of an enrollment application. Some may provide access to a mail order service. Still others may have eligibility requirements related to age, income level, and/or insurance coverage. If you are already covered for prescription drugs through an insurance plan or you are a member of EPIC, a discount card is probably not a better option.

There are many companies that offer discount cards for prescription drug services. Some tips on purchasing prescription discount cards are available on the NYS Attorney General's website at www.agrx.org/ under "Consumer Information".

Other Prescription Discount Cards for the Uninsured - There are many pharmaceutical companies that offer prescription discount cards for people who do not have prescription insurance. Since pharmaceutical company prescription discount cards limit discounts to certain branded or generic medicine, it is important to make sure your prescriptions are among those that are discounted. Some pharmaceutical manufacturer-sponsored prescription discount cards that do not have any costs for enrollment include:

  • Pfizer Pfriends - is a prescription discount card offered by Pfizer for anyone who does not have prescription drug insurance. Only certain Pfizer branded medications are included in the program. To find out more, visit Pfizer Helpful Answers www.pfizerhelpfulanswers.com, or call 1-866-706-2400.
