HIP HOP to a Healthy August with Flat HIP HO P Download Flat HIP HOP and all the information: FlatHIP HOP final.pdf
If you've ever seen HIP HOP, you know he is the kangaroo friend of Cornell Cooperative Extension, Livingston County Department of Health, Livingston County Youth Bureau, and Noyes Memorial Hospital. HIP HOP supports childhood wellness and encourages children and their families to play every day, eat more fruits and vegetables, cut down on screen time, drink more water, and get a good night's sleep.
HIP HOP is winding down the Old Fashioned Summer of July. Information on this program can be downloaded below or on the website of Cornell Cooperative Extension www.ccelivingstoncounty.org. Forms are due August 10 to be entered to win prizes from Mt. Morris Lanes, Livingston Lanes, Minnehan's activity center, and the Rochester Red Wings!
Then, starting in August, HIP HOP is inviting county families to submit their photos with our Flat HIP HOP doing fun, wellness activities here in Livingston County, or wherever you may go! It's very simple to do.
Make a printed copy of Flat HIP HOP or pick one up at your local library. You can color HIP HOP or leave him the way he is. Put him on cardboard to make him sturdier or add a stick to hold him better—or do nothing at all. Then you can take HIP HOP with you to your local parks, woods, trails, or away with you on vacation to get pictures of HIP HOP involved in wellness and doing healthy things.
E-mail your photos to jma334@cornell.edu to be posted on Facebook or post them yourself on HIP HOP’s Facebook page where they will wait for administrative approval. By sending photos you are releasing them to be posted—please be sure to send only photos you would like other people to be able to see. HIP HOP's Facebook page will be linked on the Cornell Cooperative Extension and GVHP websites.
Some Ideas to Get You Started:
- Take pictures with HIP HOP while having fun playing.
- Take pictures with HIP HOP while eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water and skim milk.
- Take pictures with HIP HOP getting ready to get a good night’s rest or taking a nap.
- Take pictures with HIP HOP volunteering, HIP HOP reading at the library.
- Take pictures of HIP HOP being safe.
There are six areas of wellness: Physical (play, eating well and not too much, safety), Environmental (being outside, recycling, cleaning up litter as some examples), Learning, Emotional, Social (being helped and being helpful to others), and Values/Spiritual—so Flat HIP HOP in any in those areas will work!
We hope to see all of you and Flat HIP HOP having a fun and active August!

The Worksite Wellness Partnership has recently begun a healthy living initiative working with school age children and Livingston County school districts. HIP HOP (Healthy In Put, Healthy Out Put) assists school staff in developing interventions and programs that will support life long wellness starting with school age children. The first two schools that are piloting HIP HOP is the Mt. Morris Central School and Keshequa/Dalton Schools in Nunda.
