About the Nature Walk Series: Walks are free, open to the public, and take place on private property. Landowners have generously opened their properties up to GVC for these scheduled walks. Help us continue these walks by respecting the landowner's privacy and property.
GVC Events 2009
Walk with Dr. George Briggs and learn about local flora on this privately conserved 100 acre property. Location: Simpson Woods, park just west of 4029 Roots Tavern Road, approximately 1.2 miles from Route 39, Geneseo.
August 1 - Island Preserve Walk with Mr. Gajewski, 9:30 Visit the Island Preserve with Stewardship Director Ben Gajewski. See the public trails that are open year-round and learn about GVC's management activities at this nature preserve.
August 15 - Genesee River Trip, 10:00 till (3:00?) Enjoy a canoe trip down the Genesee River. Travel along some of the 12 miles of river frontage that is protected by GVC. Canoes and lunch will be provided. $20/person. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please contact our office for more information and to register.
September 6 - Oak Tree Half Marathon, 5K, + Walk Run, walk, or watch along the scenic courses featuring historic Geneseo and the beautiful Oak Groves of the Genesee Valley. Visit the Oak Tree page for details. Location: Geneseo Central School; throughout the village and town of Geneseo.
September 26 - River Hike, 9:30 Take a hike with GVC staff on this 500 acre privately owned conserved land. Hike through the woods alongside the Genesee River. Location: Oxbow Lane, west of South Avon Road, off of Nations Road, park on the side of the lane, Avon.
October 10 - Genesee Valley Hunt Races, 10:00 - 4:00 A Geneseo equestrian tradition. This Genesee Valley Hunt Club event is located on the Nations Farm, a 550 acre private property that is protected by the Genesee Valley Conservancy. *This event is not run by GVC; for information please visit the Hunt Club's race website.
October 17 - Fall Walk, 2:00 Come walk with GVC staff in the 390 acre, privately owned, protected Wheeler Gully. Walk the rim of the Gully and view the fall foliage. Location: Wheeler Gully, park on Nations Road before the bridge, approximately 1 mile from Route 39, Geneseo.
