We all want to be healthy and wish to protect ourselves from potential danger. Being healthy is our goal. When physical dangers, like a falling tree, are present, we take action to get out of the way. Being aware of the danger can be part of the protection.
In our environment, we have dangers that can cause problems with our health. This Healthy Home Handbook can help you to recognize hazards that can be present in your home and surroundings and help you understand how to protect yourself from them.
The Handbook was developed by the Environment & Health Committee of the Genesee Valley Healthy Partnership. The Handbook is designed to address many common concerns regarding residential environmental health issues. Use the handbook to learn if your home is safe and healthy. Throughout each section, you will find information about various environmental health topics such as diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans, toxic materials, hazardous household products, air quality concerns, water protection and disposal of materials banned from landfills. Each section provides additional resources for finding help.
If you have any questions, or would like further information on any of the topics, please refer to the contact information listed in each section, or call the Livingston County Department of Health at (585) 243-7280.
